Time to Start Anew

I know no-one will be reading this post anytime soon, but I hope to eventually have a follower who wasn't assigned to watch me for our computer class. Anyways, my blog is going to change slightly, as it already has, and focus on reviews and everyday whatevers that catch one's attention.

My first review for now, the new season of "Lost Tapes."

Lost tapes is a show based on the idea of people (who always happen to have some sort of video camera rolling) running into dangerous cryptozoological creatures. The first season covered a wide variety of creatures from 10 foot long centipedes to the jersey devil and multiple incarnations of the Sasquatch. The show itself provides an interesting mix of terror and information as they call upon various experts to offer explanations and theories about whatever monster is currently doing the killing/scaring/mutilating. One of the best parts about the first season was that you never really got a good glimpse of the creature until near the end, and even then they may try to keep some hint of secrecy, maybe going frenzy with the camera so all you see is a big shape running up at you and a flashing of teeth and fur. Sometimes the creature will make a little cameo early on in the episode, adding some blatant foreshadowing, but it can add to the buildup of fear, like the Dover Demon episode, which happens to be one of the best. Overall, its a fun and informative little horror show to watch with the lights out at night.

The newest season isn't quite living up to the series' great foundations, showing way too much of the creature(s) which kills some of the suspense and fear because we have the time to say, "hey that's creepy, but now it just looks fake." And I have to disagree with the choice of the vampire episode. Yes vampires are a scary part of lore, but the shows real roots lie in un-tamable and terrifying creatures that don't have the remotest chance of being bargained with and a vampire is just too damn close to human and quite frankly, a little cheesy. That episode was more CSI than "Oh my god its eating my leg," which, sadly but truly, is the best part of the show. They are turning it around, especially with their newest episode, "The Yeti." Very creepy, filled with suspense and the yeti beast itself is already terrifying.

Overall a great series with new episodes Tuesday nights, give it a watch!
